A real estate development that’s 10 years in the making is nearing its completion.
Wisconsin-based Alexander Company has broken ground on what the company said in a press release is the last phase of apartments at Liberty Crest at the former site of the Lorton Reformatory.
The work includes an adaptive reuse of former guards’ quarters near Silverbrook Road into six townhome-style apartments. The apartments are one- and two-bedroom units. They will range in rents from $2,100 per month for 1,372 square feet to $3,100 per month for 2,054 square feet.
An earlier phase of Liberty Crest saw the development of 165 historic apartments.
Lorton Reformatory was originally commissioned in the early 20th century and has undergone redevelopment since. In addition to the Alexander Company, Elm Street Development and Fairfax County have worked on the redevelopment of the former prison site.
