Virginia is now home to 19 Fortune 500 companies, down from 22 last year.
The list ranks the top public companies in the U.S., based on gross revenue.
The companies that dropped off the list were Smithfield Foods (which was sold to a Chinese company in 2013), Leidos Holdings and NII Holdings.
Moving up on the Fortune 500 were CarMax, Hilton Worldwide Holdings, Dollar Tree, Gannett and Advance Auto Parts. Advance Auto saw the biggest jump, moving 108 spots since last year (In 2014, Advance acquired AutoQuest for $2 billion, making it the largest automotive aftermarket parts provider in North America).
