Sonny Merryman Inc. has started construction of a $5 million, 37,000-square-foot bus service facility in Chesapeake.
The company, based in Evington near Lynchburg, is a major dealer of buses for school, transit and commercial use.
The new facility at 1221 Fleetway Drive in the Cavalier Industrial Park in western Chesapeake will replace an existing service center located in the Greenbrier Industrial Park in Chesapeake.
The new service center will include office space, 12 service bays, parts warehousing and a body repair shop. It is scheduled for completion next year.
Sonny Merryman also operates a bus service center near Manassas. The company, which has more than 100 employees, was named the Thomas Built Buses Dealer of the Year in 2014.
