Waynesboro-based NTELOS has sold its Eastern Markets wireless licenses to T-Mobile for $56 million, the company announced Thursday.
The move, announced in December, is part of NTELOS’ plans to exit the Eastern Markets and focus on its Western Markets, made up of western Virginia, West Virginia and parts of Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky.
Under the agreement, NTELOS is leasing back part of the spectrum to continue serving Eastern Markets customers until it shuts down operations there in November.
In its Western Markets, NTELOS has approximately 282,100 retail customers and is the wholesale provider of wireless network services in part of the area to Sprint Corp. NTELOS wireless network serves approximately 3.1 million residents in its Western Markets.
