Crane manufacturer Tadano Mantis Corp. announced Wednesday that it will spend $2.5 million to expand its manufacturing operation in Richlands, creating 25 new jobs.
Tadano Mantis makes cranes that are used in power transmission line erection, highway and bridge construction, railroads and energy and oil pipelines. The U.S. headquarters of the Japanese company is based in Franklin, Tenn.
Virginia competed against Tennessee for the project.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe approved a $100,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund for the project to help Tazewell County with the project. The Virginia Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission approved $140,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds.
