As the third generation of his family to lead Hilldrup, McDaniel has been president and CEO since 2005. He started working at the now 120-year-old Fredericksburg-based moving, storage and logistics company at age 12. McDaniel also chairs the board for UniGroup, the Missouri-based parent company of United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit.
Under his leadership, Hilldrup has grown significantly, now employing about 900 people and generating annual revenues exceeding $120 million. McDaniel has diversified the company’s business lines, expanding into moving and storage, international services, workplace moves and logistics.
A 1986 University of Virginia graduate, McDaniel was a record-setting linebacker and team captain for the Cavaliers football team who still ranks third all-time at U.Va. with 432 career tackles. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, running, fishing, hunting and supporting U.Va. athletic events, especially Cavalier football. He sits on the Stafford Hospital Foundation board.
