PRESIDENT, TFORCE FREIGHT, RICHMOND
Virginia Business// August 30, 2023//
Previously vice president of TForce’s field operations, Hall took over as president in June, after his predecessor, Paul Hoelting, retired.
A Virginia Commonwealth University graduate, Hall started working for Overnite Transportation, which later became UPS Freight, more than 30 years ago. In 2021, Montreal-based TFI International purchased UPS’ less-than-truckload freight business for $800 million. Hall’s connection to the company goes back even further, though: His mother worked at Overnite when he was growing up and encouraged him to come work there after he graduated from high school.
Hall previously served as regional director of operations in Greenville, South Carolina, as well as regional vice president in Los Angeles. In mid-July, TForce reached a tentative five-year collective bargaining agreement with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union, avoiding a potential strike at the end of July, when the previous contract was set to expire.
In February, TFI International reported it had lowered TForce Freight’s operating ratio from around 99% to 90.1%. TForce had been losing money since its 2021 acquisitions but has since shed some unprofitable business, TFI Chairman, President and CEO Alain Bedard said.
