In July, Cherot took office as the first physician to lead the 85-year-old March of Dimes. She previously served as March of Dimes’ senior vice president and chief medical and health officer, leading the nonprofit’s Office of Maternal and Child Health Impact.

Cherot succeeded Karen Walker Johnson, who served as interim CEO since January, following the departure in late 2022 of former CEO Stacey D. Stewart, who left to become CEO of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. An OB-GYN, Cherot previously served as chief medical officer for Axia Women’s Health and joined the March of Dimes in January. Her other experience includes serving as medical director and managing partner for Brunswick Hills Obstetrics and Gynecology, a New Jersey women’s health clinic. She has a medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and an MBA and bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Founded in 1938 by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt to combat polio, the March of Dimes today is a national nonprofit focused on healthy pregnancies and births. Its 2021 operating revenue was $103.9 million.
