The Community Foundation for a greater Richmond has been committed to improving the quality of life for residents in the Richmond region for more than 50 years. Last year the foundation awarded more than $4.6 million to 125 local organizations through its annual Community Impact grants program, helping individuals and families build a path to economic mobility.

Established in 1968, the foundation manages about 1,300 charitable funds with assets of around $859 million.

Armstrong, who holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations from West Virginia University, has led the organization since 2015. She has held executive leadership positions in the nonprofit sector for more than 30 years, including 26 years with United Way. She serves on boards for ChamberRVA, Venture Richmond and RVA757 Connects.

The foundation recently identified access to affordable housing as a high-impact area for its grants, with a goal of improving the area supply of quality affordable housing and reducing the housing cost obstacles facing many low-income families.
