Formerly the head of DuPont’s plant in Buffalo, New York, Ledesma moved south to lead its facility in Chesterfield County in 2021. Founded in 1929, the Spruance plant is DuPont’s largest manufacturing site in the world, and it produces Tyvek, Nomex and Kevlar, materials that were in great demand at the start of the pandemic for the manufacturing of protective equipment. More than 2,000 people work at the plant.
In April, DuPont introduced Kevlar EXO aramid fiber, which is advertised as a lighter and more heat-resistant bulletproof fabric for protective vests.
Ledesma, who joined DuPont in 2018, previously worked at Oxy and Lafarge Cement in management and engineering roles. He has a degree in chemical engineering from the University of South Florida and an MBA from DeVry University. He sits on the board of directors for the Virginia Manufacturers Association.
