The Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (AEDP) announced this week that its president and CEO is retiring after nearly six years with the organization.
On March 15, Val P. Hawkins will retire and Stephanie Landrum will take over as the partnership’s acting president and CEO while maintaining her previous role as chief operating officer. Landrum has been working for AEDP for a decade, most recently serving as executive vice president and COO.
Hawkins was instrumental in helping secure the National Science Foundation’s relocation from Ballston to Alexandria, which is expected to create 2,100 jobs, spin off an additional 3,000 jobs from the agency’s contractor tail, and create demand for a new 3-star, 235 room hotel. He also is one of the founders and architects of the recently launched Capitol Post Veterans business initiative, which guides veterans in the Washington, D.C.-area on growing or starting a business.
In her new role, Landrum will continue to work to boost Alexandria’s tax revenue and improve the city’s employment opportunities. She also will focus on piloting start-up initiatives to grow local businesses.
