Kevin M. Sweeney, a retired Navy rear admiral, has been named interim president and CEO of the Norfolk-based Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance.
He is temporarily filling the vacancy created by the departure of Darryl Gosnell, who stepped down as the head of the regional economic development organization at the end of January.Sweeney, a 1982 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy,
etired from active duty last year. In his last assignment, he served as commander of Carrier Strike Group Ten and commander of the Harry S. Truman Strike Group.
During his 30-year career, he served as executive assistant to the undersecretary of the Navy and executive assistant to the commander of the U.S. Forces Command and NATO’s supreme allied commander for transformation.
He and his family live in Norfolk.
