Corner Bakery Cafe, a Dallas-based casual restaurant chain, has announced plans to open five restaurants in Richmond and Fredericksburg.

The company’s franchise partner is Shahid Ali and its operating partner is Ibo Pinar in the restaurant deal.

Ali plans to open five Corner Bakery Cafe neighborhood cafes throughout the Richmond and Fredericksburg areas, becoming the company 34th franchise partner.

He owns three Popeyes Louisiana Kitchens in the mid-Atlantic region. He has been a franchise operator for nearly 20 years.

“After visiting the corporate-owned Corner Bakery Cafes in the Washington Metro region, I knew that the concept was exactly what Richmond and Fredericksburg needed,” Ali said in a statement.

Corner Bakery Cafe has more than 180 company-owned and franchise cafes currently open, with franchise agreements representing commitments for an additional 340 units.

Corner Bakery Café, founded in 1991, now has operations in 19 states and the District of Columbia.

The company was acquired in 2011 by Roark Capital Group, an Atlanta-based private equity firm.
