Charles City County has received a $600,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) to bring broadband to the Roxbury Industrial Park and other businesses along Route 106.

The project will help supply broadband to new businesses in the eastern portion of the county. The funding is available on a first-come, first-serve basis from January 1 through the end of September.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe also announced Monday that Wise County had received a $122,652 CDGB to provide new public sewer service to the Wells Boone community, which has relied on aging septic systems that were built in poor soil conditions. The project is expected to benefit 11 houses, including seven that are low- to moderate-income.

The CDCG program, started in 1982, is a federally-funded grant program that is administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. Virginia receives up to $17 million each year for the program.
