Four Virginians make Forbes’ list of Richest People in America

Four Virginians have been named to Forbes list of The Richest People in America, down from five Virginians one year ago.


The Plains resident Jacqueline Mars came in at No. 19 along with her brothers Forrest and John. The Mars, whose net worth is estimated at $22.2 billion each, own McLean-based Mars Inc., the world’s largest candymaker.


At a net worth of $3 billion each, Carlyle Group Co-Founders William Conway Jr. and Daniel D’Aniello placed No. 190 on the list.  Conway, co-CEO of the Washington, D.C.-based company, lives in McLean while D’Aniello, Carlyle’s chairman, resides in Vienna. The private equity firm has $200 billion in assets.


Winnie Johnson-Marquart, heir to the SC Johnson family fortune and president of the Johnson Family Foundation, ranked No. 230 with a valued net worth of $2.7 billion. She resides in Virginia Beach.


Steve Case, the co-founder of AOL and former chairman of AOL Time Warner who lives in McLean, was not on the list this year. According to Forbes, candidates this year had to have a net worth of at least $1.55 billion. Case’s net worth last year was estimated to be $1.4 billion.


The richest man in America was once again, Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft. His net worth is $81 billion, according to Forbes.
