An Arlington-based construction company, Sigal Construction Corp., has joined forces with Washington, D.C.-based GCS Inc. in a joint venture to build North Capitol Commons, a $21 million, 87,000-square-foot, mixed-use residential community in D.C.

The project in the North of Massachusetts (NoMa) neighborhood will be located on one of the main roads leading to the U.S. Capitol, offering residents views of the north and south of North Capitol Street. The 14-story building will provide affordable housing units, including housing for veterans.

Designed by D.C.-based Sorg Architects, the building will consist of 12 floors of micro studio apartments (124 units) office and retail spaces on the ground level and community/office spaces on the second floor.

North Capitol Commons also will offer conference space, management offices, a lounge, fitness center, retail space and social services. It’s expected to be finished by winter 2015.
