Lynchburg-based Horizon Behavioral Health will break ground Friday, Sept. 26, on the newest wellness center in Central Virginia.

Local business and government officials are expected to join company leaders at 11 a.m. for a ceremony on the corner of Brockman Park Drive and West Commerce Street in the town of Amherst. The Amherst Wellness Center will provide greater access to behavioral health care for both children and adults.

The new facility will be the largest behavioral healthcare facility in Amherst. THe company said it will rent the space from the project's builder, Gentry Construction.

In 1972, three years after establishing itself in Lynchburg, Horizon opened a satellite mental health clinic in Amherst. In 1982, the organization began a full-time Amherst mental health clinic. This new site will provide more clinical space to assess and treat patients.
