Bowman, whose first job was as a carpenter’s helper working for his father, earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech. He was a principal for 15 years at Urban Engineering before founding Bowman Consulting Group, which was a five-person company at its inception in 1995. It now has 1,400 employees in more than 60 offices across 18 states and Washington, D.C.
The company went public in May 2021, raising $51.73 million by selling 3.69 million shares at $14 per share. Since its IPO, Bowman Consulting has acquired 10 companies across the country and says it continues to look for strategic growth opportunities.
Bowman serves on the advisory board for Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering and is the former chair of the Virginia Board of Housing and Community Development.
