The growth of information technology jobs slowed to 0.2 percent in August, according to TechServe Alliance, an Alexandria-based trade association for the IT and engineering staffing and solutions industry.

Nationwide the number of IT jobs rose to 4.69 million, the association said.

On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by 3.5 percent since August 2013, adding 158,900 workers.

Engineering jobs also grew slowly, up 0.1 percent to 2.52 million. On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment has grown by 2.1 percent since August 2013, adding 51,000 engineering workers.

“Despite the slowdown in the pace job growth, IT and engineering employment remains robust,” Mark Roberts, the CEO of TechServe, said in a statement. “The ebb and flow of the monthly jobs numbers is a natural part of a dynamic labor market.”

He noted that August represented the slowest rate of job growth for the year following July, which had posted the fastest growth.
