The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) has been selected to propose improvements for the scheduling processes and systems at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities.
The VA has reached an agreement with a team of NVTC member companies, which will begin evaluating the VA’s processes and systems this week. The five companies offering pro bono assistance with the project include Booz Allen Hamilton, IBM, the MITRE Corp., SAIC and HP. The group will analyze the scheduling system and recommend improvements.
Virginia Sen. Mark R. Warner announced the project Tuesday. The initiative was included in recent legislation to reform the VA.
“I am grateful to NVTC for their leadership in working with the VA to endorse this pro bono offer from a team of IT professionals committed to helping the VA improve its processes,” Warner said in a statement.
The program is built on a model used in 2011 when the U.S. Army and NVTC helped design a technology fix for Arlington National Cemetery, after reports said the remains of warfighters had been misidentified and misplaced by cemetery officials.
