The number of workplace deaths in Virginia fell 15 percent to 126 in 2013, according to a report released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The number of work-related deaths in the U.S. was also down last year to 4,405 deaths compared with 4,628 in the previous year.
Most of the deaths in Virginia, 54, were from transportation-related accidents, while 26 represented deaths from violence, whether it be self-inflicted or from other people.
Twenty-one deaths were related to falls, slips or trips and 16 had to do with contact with objects. Six died from exposure to harmful substances.
