Over the past year, Kellermann has overseen the establishment of several new VCU Health System assets, including a $384 million outpatient center in downtown Richmond and an ambulatory surgery center in Short Pump. The health system also is on track to open the 16-story, $400 million “Wonder Tower” for The Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU in 2023.

In February, Dr. Todd Stravitz made the university’s largest-ever donation, a $104 million gift supporting liver research and establishing the Stravitz-Sanyal Institute for Liver Disease and Metabolic Health, bringing under one roof all liver treatment programs at VCU.

The former medical school dean of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Maryland, Kellermann joined VCU in 2020 and dealt with ever-changing COVID protocol and massive influxes of patients during spikes caused by new variants.

In July, VCU Medical Center tied for third place in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2022-23 best hospitals in Virginia.

BEST ADVICE FOR OTHERS: Stay humble and always act with integrity.

PERSON I ADMIRE: Dr. Hiram Moore, my hometown’s only Black doctor. He inspired me to become a physician.
