With more than 40 years in the banking industry, Cummings now serves as Virginia’s secretary of finance, appointed in January by Gov. Glenn Youngkin.
His duties include oversight of the state’s departments of accounts, taxation, treasury, and planning and budget.
His most recent position was president and CEO of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group in the Americas, where he worked for more than five years, overseeing U.S. businesses held by the Japanese bank.
Prior to his time at MUFJ, he was chairman of UBS’ investment banking division. Cummings also spent a decade in Charlotte, North Carolina, at Wachovia Corp., where he ultimately worked as global head of corporate and investment banking. He also served as chairman and CEO for middle market investment banking firm Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co.
Cummings has a bachelor’s degree in administrative science from Colby College
in Maine and an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
