ManTech entered 2022 with fresh acquisitions. In January, the Fortune 1000 tech contractor completed its acquisition of Maryland-based Technical and Management Assistance Corp., a deal that followed closely on the heels of its $350 million purchase of Washington, D.C.-based Gryphon Technologies.

In May, ManTech announced it had entered into a $4.2 billion, all-cash deal to be acquired by The Carlyle Group, the private equity firm previously co-led by Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin. ManTech’s shareholders will receive $96 per share in cash when it closes later this year.

Phillips joined the firm in 2002 after it acquired his former company, CTX Corp., and now leads 9,400 employees. He has served as ManTech’s president and CEO since 2018 and became chair in 2020 under a plan to transition leadership of the company co-founded in 1968 by George Pedersen. ManTech reported $2.5 billion in revenue in fiscal 2021.

A former Army reservist, Phillips has a bachelor’s degree from William & Mary and serves on the college foundation’s board of trustees.
