Reston-based SyncDog has acquired certain types of technology from Maryland-based LRW Technologies.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

SyncDog’s products are designed to address potential problems in the “bring your own device” trend (the use of personal smartphones and tablets in the workplace, known as BYOD).

SyncDog said Secure ActiveSync agent technology acquired from LRW will add enhance application protection in SyncDog’s Sentinel Secure Enterprise Mobility Suite.

The additional technology allows SyncDog customers to separate corporate applications from employee applications used on personal devices.

Jonas Gyllensvaan, president and CEO of SyncDog, said the BYOD trend creates risk for corporate networks.

“If we are going to secure our datacenters, we must segment corporate data on these personal devices, and this was the genesis of acquiring some of the LRW technology,” he said in a statement.
