The Fredericksburg Regional Alliance has announced its next president. Curry Roberts, a former Virginia secretary of economic development, will take over on Sept 2. He replaces Gene Bailey who’s retiring after nearly 15 years with the regional public-private partnership.

Currently, Curry is a principal consultant at Hirschler-Fleischer Consulting LLC.

“Curry Roberts brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, having served as the secretary of economic development (now Commerce and Trade) for the Commonwealth under former Gov. Jerry Baliles.  This, combined with working for 14 years in executive leadership positions of businesses owned by the late John Kluge, makes him well qualified to lead the alliance,” Kent Farmer,  the alliance's chairman, said in a statement.

According to the partnership, Curry has been active in high-profile economic development initiatives,  including leading the transition of the State Fair of Virginia to its new home in Caroline County.

Curry currently serves as vice-chair of the Southern States Cooperative Board of Directors and on the board of directors of the Virginia Public Safety Foundation.  He also is a past president of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association and was a co-recipient this year of its distinguished service award.
