Customers were lined up and ready to check out Richmond’s newest gourmet grocery, Southern Season, when it opened last week.
On July 31, the store hosted a ceremony and ribbon cutting with Southern Season team members, representatives from the developer, Gumenick Properties, and Henrico County officials.
The 50,000-square-foot store is the first commercial tenant in Libbie Mill, an 80-acre, mixed-use project under development in Henrico at West Broad Street and Staples Mill Road. The store houses more than 80,000 gourmet grocery and cooking items, including 10,000 Virginia-based artisan goods and products.
Dining options at Southern Season include bakery and deli prepared foods that can be picked-up, eaten at the café, or delivered.
Guests also can dine at Southerly Restaurant and Patio – a restaurant and bar adjacent to the store. Southerly serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus that highlight locally sourced products and produce. Additionally, the store offers catering services, on- and off-site.
Southern Season, an award-winning gourmet food store, is based in Chapel Hill, N.C., where its flagship store has been in operation since 1975. The Richmond store joins one in Charleston as Southern’s only other locations.
The company has won more than 100 awards including one of the Top 100 Brunch Spots in America, Diner’s Choice Awards by Open Table and Best Local Gourmet Grocery.
