Bon Secours opens new facilities at Richmond Community Hospital

Bon Secours Richmond Health System has opened an outpatient pharmacy, an outpatient infusion center and a heart failure clinic at Richmond Community Hospital in the city’s East End.

The new services are part of a renovation of the hospital’s medical office building.

Bon Secours said its new Good Health Pharmacy fills a void left when longtime pharmacist Leonard L. Edloe retired and closed his two Church Hill drugstores two years ago. James Frazier II, a former pharmacist at East End Pharmacy, will head the Good Health Pharmacy. It represents the health system’s seventh pharmacy in the Richmond and Hampton Roads areas.

Bon Secours said the new outpatient infusion center is designed to provide a comfortable place for patients to receive medication through a needle or catheter in treatments such as chemotherapy, blood and blood product transfusions, hydration, IV iron therapy and wound care.

Cathy Jones  will head the outpatient heart failure clinic in collaboration with Dr. Michael Kelly. His practice, Richmond Cardiology Consultants, is relocating to the first floor of the medical office building. The clinic is expected to focus on patient education, prevention, early detection and advancements in heart failure therapies.

The renovation of Richmond Community Hospital is part of Bon Secours’ East End Transformation Plan, begun four years ago.  Plans also are underway to expand the hospital’s presence  in Church Hill, with the development of the Bon Secours Center for Healthy Communities on Nine Mile Road. The center will include a new medical office building and will provide classes focusing on issues such as  childhood obesity, infant mortality, diabetes, mental health and wellness.

The center is a result of the economic development agreement involving Bon Secours, the City of Richmond and the Richmond Economic Development Authority as part of the development of the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in the city.
