The Virginia Chamber of Commerce elected Fred D. Thompson Jr. its 2022 chair on Tuesday.

Thompson is chief administrative officer and a business partner at Reston-based Thompson Hospitality Corp.

“Fred has been a vital member of the Chamber’s board of directors and executive committee for several years and is a valued leader in the business community and the Northern Virginia region,” Virginia Chamber President and CEO Barry DuVal said in a statement.

Thompson joined the Chamber’s board of directors in 2015 and has been a member of its executive board since 2018. He has served as vice chair for Northern Virginia, officer at large and first vice chair.

“As a member of the Chamber Board of Directors for more than six years, I am honored to now serve in this leadership position and work directly with Barry, the Chamber team and fellow board members to ensure Virginia remains a great place to do business,” Thompson said in a statement. “Over the next year, the Chamber will work tirelessly to support the implementation of the policy solutions outlined in Blueprint Virginia 2030 and defend Virginia’s recognition as the top state for business.”

Thompson succeeds the 2021 chair and CEO emeritus, Alan Witt.

Thompson is a member of The Global Good Fund, the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and the Virginia Council on Economic Education. He serves as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Vienna.

Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree from Hampden-Sydney College and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Virginia.
