Arlington-based TechAmerica has been acquired by CompTIA, a technology trade association based in Downers Grove, Ill.  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“This is not the merging of two identical organizations,” Shawn Osborne, TechAmerica’s president and CEO said in a statement on the organization’s website. “TechAmerica and CompTIA have complementary interests and goals within the ICT industry. Whereas TechAmerica has been a leading voice of large businesses and the tech public sector, CompTIA has built a strong reputation for workforce training and certification, business education and best practices, and advocacy for small and medium technology companies in the IT sector. Joining forces consolidates disparate segments of the ICT sector under one roof to enhance voice, reach and influence. A single, unified organization for commercial and public sector interests allows us to advance business interests and opportunities as a whole.”

The combined company will keep the CompTIA name, brand, leadership and board of directors but the organization will keep the TechAmerica name for advocacy efforts and maintain an office in the Rosslyn neighborhood of Arlington. One member from TechAmerica’s board will join CompTIA’s board of directors.

With the acquisition, CompTIA now has 2,500 member organizations. The majority of TechAmerica’s employees will remain in place, Osborne also said.
