Lead Hampton Roads has named Harvey L. Lindsay Jr., chairman of Harvey Lindsay Commercial Real Estate in Norfolk, this year’s First Citizen of Hampton Roads.
The award comes as Lindsay, 84, celebrates his 60th year in the commercial real estate industry. In 1954, Lindsay joined the firm founded by his father, Harvey Lindsay Sr. He still reports to the company’s offices on the 14th floor of the Dominion Tower in Norfolk
Lindsay and his company have been instrumental in many of Hampton Roads’ landmark developments including Wards Corner shopping center in Norfolk, the region’s first enclosed mall, Military Circle, the Waterside Festival Marketplace and more recently, City Center at Oyster Point in Newport News. Lindsay also has served in leadership roles on many civic boards. Among them are president of the Urban League of Tidewater, president of the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Steering Committee for the United Way Capital Fund Campaign.
The annual celebration of Hampton Road’s First Citizen will be held on June 19 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. Other awards that will be presented are Visionary Leader Award to Zach Miller, manager director, Hatch Norfolk; the Julian Hirst Alumni Leadership Award, Cathie France, chief public affairs officer at the Port of Virginia; and Distinguished Leader Award to Jeffrey Ainslie, president sales and operations, Ainslie Group Inc.
