A team including a subsidiary of Lynchburg-based nuclear components and fuel supplier BWX Technologies Inc. (BWXT) won a U.S. Department of Energy contract with an estimated ceiling of $21 billion, the supplier announced Thursday.

The DOE’s Office of Environmental Management awarded the 10-year Savannah River Site Integrated Mission Completion Contract to Savannah River Mission Completion LLC (SRMC), a joint venture with subsidiaries of BWXT, Germantown, Maryland-based engineering contractor Amentum Services Inc. and Irving, Texas-based engineering and construction firm Fluor Corp.

The team will handle environmental management operations at the Savannah River Site (SRS), a 310-square-mile site in South Carolina that is bordered on the west by the Savannah River and Georgia. Work will include liquid waste stabilization and could include nuclear materials management and stabilization.

“This is a strategically important win for BWXT and demonstrates our ability to address some of the most complex environmental challenges in the nation,” Ken Camplin, president of BWXT’s Nuclear Services Group, said in a statement. “We intend to work with our SRMC teammates, our DOE customer, the regulatory authorities and the community in making a significant impact on waste management at SRS for many years to come.”

Fortune 1000 company BWXT provides nuclear solutions for security, clean energy, environmental remediation and others. BWXT has about 6,700 employees and 12 major sites in the U.S and Canada.
