Chesapeake Bank has pledged $100,000 toward building a new emergency department at Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, the bank announced Wednesday.

“As a community bank with several offices on the Northern Neck, Chesapeake Bank is proud to support the campaign for Rappahannock General Hospital,” Jeffrey Szyperski, CEO and President of Chesapeake Bank said in a statement. “It’s our way of giving back to the community that’s home to so many of our employees and customers.”

Chesapeake Bank’s pledge will go towards a $15 million renovation project at the Northern Neck hospital that will include a 910-square-foot expansion and renovation of 34,000 square feet of existing space. It will convert the emergency department from an eight-bed, semi-private unit to a 10-bed unit with private rooms, according to the bank.

“This generous pledge from Chesapeake Bank will allow us to further our mission and better meet the health care needs of the residents in the Northern Neck,” Alan Bailey, vice president administrator with Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital, said in a statement. “We are grateful for this financial commitment and look forward to improving access to quality, compassionate care in our community for many years to come.”

Construction started in April and is expected to be completed in January 2023.
