Harvey D. Brookins Jr. has been named chief development officer at Roanoke-based Freedom First Credit Union.
Brookins will direct the retail activities of the branch, mortgage, community development, and commercial and business banking divisions, along with Freedom First’s two wholly-owned subsidiaries, Freedom First Insurance and Freedom First Title & Settlement.
Brookins has been a market president for a national banking company and most recently served as senior vice president of commercial banking at a large regional bank.
Brookins serves on the boards of Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, the Western Virginia Water Authority, the Hotel Roanoke, the Roanoke Valley YMCA, and on the Ferrum College Board of Trustees.
He has also served in leadership roles in support of Total Action for Progress, Habitat for Humanity, and the Blue Ridge Chapter of MS.
Freedom First, founded in 1956, has 47,000 members, assets of $330 million and nine branch locations.
Freedom First was named a National Community Credit Union of the Year by its trade association, the Credit Union National Association.
