Aneesh Chopra, a former Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor in Virginia, has become a special adviser to Box Inc., a Los Altos, Calif.-based online file sharing and cloud content management service.
He was the first chief technology officer of the United States, serving under President Obama. He also served as Virginia secretary of technology under Gov. Tim Kaine, now a U.S. senator.
Chopra is co-founder of Arlington-based data analytics incubator Hunch Analytics where he now serves as executive vice president .
He was defeated in the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor by state Sen. Ralph Northam. Northam was elected to the office in November, defeating Republican E.W. Jackson.
Chopra will advise Box’s health-care and life sciences practice. Sales in that area have grown six-fold in the past year, according to the company.
