The site of the Beatles first concert in the U.S. is getting a makeover, and an Arlington-based general contractor is doing the work. Sigal Construction Corp. is renovating the Coliseum (Uline Arena) into a 340,000-square-foot, mixed-use development.
When complete, the original Arena and Icehouse Buildings, both registered historic properties, will become commercial buildings with ground-floor retail and offices above. The Coliseum is located in D.C.’s NoMa (north of Massachusetts) neighborhood near Union Station.
Sigal also is working on three other projects in the district. The Equitable Building is a 23,000-square-foot project that includes a renovation and addition to the structure, which was built in 1911.
Another restoration is underway on the Gang of Three, which refers to three historic townhouses, located across from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
The company also is doing a renovation and addition for a government tenant at 920 Rhode Island Ave.
