Sterling-based IT company REI Systems secured a five-year, $400 million contract from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the company announced Tuesday.

Under the single-award Criminal Investigations, Imports and Systems Inspection Regulatory Compliance and Enforcement contract, REI will support the FDA’s Office of Regulatory Affairs in the development and operations of mission-critical systems that help protect consumers. The systems support more than 150 posts and border stations domestically, 13 international offices and labs, and on-site inspections at manufacturer sites.

Megan Hicks, REI Systems account executive for the FDA, said in a statement, “We are honored to assist FDA in its mission to inspect and ensure only the safest products make it into the hands and households of consumers throughout the country.”

REI Systems previously worked on the Foreign Inspection Planning and Scheduling System for the FDA.

Founded in 1989, REI Systems employs nearly 600 consultants and serves clients in health care, national security, science and technology and government operations. Its clients include NASA, the Department of Homeland Security and the General Services Administration.
