Virginia merchandise exports totaled $17.9 billion last year, according to the International Trade Administration (ITA).
Leading destinations for Virginia’s export sales in 2013 were
• Dominican Republic (up 99 percent)
• Egypt (up 96 percent)
• the Netherlands (up 71 percent)
• Russia (up 59 percent)
• Switzerland (up 38 percent)
Key merchandise export categories included: chemicals; computer and electronic products; transportation equipment; machinery manufactures; and agricultural products.
“Virginia companies continue to tailor their export strategies to meet growing international demand for high-value U.S. products and services,” Eric McDonald, director of the ITA’s U.S. Commercial Service in Richmond, said in a statement.
