Herndon-based Center for Innovative Technology released results of its 2013 Health Information Technology (IT) Assessment. The survey showed Virginia’s progress on telehealth and broadband expansion.
From 2010 to 2013, Virginia’s population with access to broadband increased from 33 percent to 97 percent, according to data highlighted in the survey.
Since 2012, the commonwealth rose from eighth to third in national rankings for average download speeds. Virginia has jumped from fifth to third in its national ranking for hospital-based adoption of Electronic Medical Records during the past two years, the report also said.
The CIT Broadband service line completed the survey with Broad Axe Technology Partners and in conjunction with the secretaries of health and human resources and technology. It was funded by CIT’s State Broadband Initiative grant awarded by the National Telecommunication and Information Administration.
