Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach begins construction next week on the second phase of a multimillion-dollar renovation. The project will redevelop exterior mall entrances, expand the plaza at the main entrance and remove the mall’s upper level.
The majority of the project is scheduled to be done by the fourth quarter of this year, in time for the holiday shopping season.
“This renovation will give our guests a modern, open shopping environment, a state-of-the art food court conveniently located at the heart of the center and expanded amenities,” Michael Harris, general manager of Lynnhaven Mall, said in a statement.
According to mall officials, removal of the upper-level mezzanine will create an open expanse between the new main mall entrance and center court, while allowing for development of a food court expansion. The new food court entrance will be designed with a two-story glass and stone façade facing the AMC Theaters.
The project also includes installation of a new interactive children’s play area on the lower level.
Phase II follows extensive interior renovations that were completed in 2013. They included modern tile finishes, new colors, contemporary soft seating areas and energy-efficient lighting.
Construction on the mall entrances will begin this month. The current food court, on the upper level, will remain in operation until the new court is completed this fall.
To ensure minimal disturbance to visitors, reconstruction work will be completed outside of mall operating hours.
Lynnhaven Mall is owned and managed by General Growth Properties, a Chicago-based company that focuses exclusively on owning, managing, leasing and redeveloping retail properties throughout the U.S.
