Jeffery Liverman has been named executive director of the Jacksonville Center for the Arts in Floyd, effective Feb. 1.

Liverman has been the executive director of the Danville Science Center since 2003. He replaces John McEnhill, who is retiring.

The Jacksonville Center for the Arts seeks to showcase, support, and facilitate artistic endeavors and rural creativity in Southwest Virginia.

Located in a historic dairy barn in Floyd, the center offers year-round educational programs, houses resident studio artists and mounts rotating exhibits that feature local and regional artists and artisans.

Exhibit space and attendance at the Science Center doubled during Liverman’s leadership.

Throughout his career, he has taught college-level classes in the Virginia Community College system, at Averett University and at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Away from the office, Liverman builds and repairs stringed instruments. He also performs and writes music, primarily in the bluegrass/mountain and roots/folk music genres.
