National Instruments joins Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing

Texas-based National Instruments has joined the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) as  the 17th industry member of the collaborative research organization. 

CCAM, based in Prince George County, provides applied research on advanced manufacturing. Its members include a wide range of manufacturers and four Virginia universities.

Based in Austin, Texas, National Instruments has equipped engineers and scientists with software and hardware tools designed to accelerate productivity, innovation and discovery. It works with 35,000 companies worldwide in  a variety of industries including health care, energy, aerospace, semiconductors and automotives.

National Instruments, which was founded in 1976, had $1.14 billion in revenue in 2012. It has 7,100 employes working in offices in nearly 50 countries.

CCAM's industry and government members include Canon Virginia Inc., Chromalloy, Newport News Shipbuilding, Rolls-Royce, Sandvik Coromant, Siemens, Sulzer Metco, Aerojet, Hermle Machine Co., Mitutoyo, TurboCombustor Technology Inc., Buehler, Cool Clean Technologies, GF AgieCharmilles, Blaser Swisslube, Mechdyne and NASA Langley Research Center. 

CCAM's academic members are Virginia State University, the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech and Old Dominion University.
