A Virginia-based hotel management company, Interstate Hotels & Resorts in Arlington, is managing the newest and tallest hotel in New York City.
Interstate and Marriott International Inc. celebrated the official opening of North America’s tallest, single-use hotel on Jan. 7, although the 68-story tower opened to travelers on Dec. 29.
The combined 378-room Courtyard Hotel and 261-suite Residence Inn is located at the corner of Broadway and 54th Street. It offers views of Central Park, Times Square and the Hudson River and access to attractions such as Carnegie Hall and the Broadway theater district.
The property reaches nearly 753 feet, making it the tallest hotel without other mixed uses in the country, according to The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat in Illinois.
The hotel is operating under a franchise agreement between Marriott and developer Granite Broadway Development LLC, with Interstate managing the dual-branded hotel. According to a Bloomberg news report,it cost $320 million to build.
Interstate manages nearly 400 hotels with more than 73,000 rooms spanning 10 countries. The company has 25,000 employees worldwide.
The hotel’s opening comes as New York continues to see a record number of tourists. The city expects 55 million tourists this year.
