Bassett Furniture Industries Inc. plans to invest $1.5 million to expanding its operations in Henry County, creating 25 new jobs.
During the next three years, the expansion is expected to increase local manufacturing capacity and support operations as the company develops its custom casual dining furniture business.
“This investment will expand our production capacities, provide improved service for our customers, and position the facility for future growth,” Robert H. Spilman Jr., Bassett’s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corp. to secure the project. The Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation also offered assistance. Gov. Bob McDonnell approved a $50,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Henry County with the project.
Henry County also will contribute $25,000 for site development. Through its Virginia Jobs Investment Program, the Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide funding and services to support the company’s recruitment and training activities.
