Chantilly-based defense contractor VTG announced Thursday it has hired Kirk Herdman as its president for national security solutions and as a member of its board of directors.

Herdman most recently served as executive vice president for business development and corporate development at Maryland-based defense contractor KeyW Corp. In his new role, Herdman will oversee VTG’s market expansion strategy.

“[Herdman] is a thoughtful leader who brings a wealth of strategic insight, technical expertise and operational savvy to this new role, as well as an impressive track record growing public- and private-sector businesses in the GovCon market,” VTG President and CEO John Hassoun said in a statement. “Kirk is the perfect fit to lead this high-growth area of the VTG enterprise and capitalize on the momentum we built in 2020.”

Herdman has also previously served in leadership positions at General Dynamics Corp., ManTech International Corp. and Veridian Corp. He earned his bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from Virginia Tech.

VTG offers force modernization and digital transformation services to naval, aerospace, network and digital customers.
