NASA announced Tuesday it has awarded Falls Church-based Fortune 500 aerospace and defense contractor Northrop Grumman Corp. a $70 million contract to provide engineering, manufacturing and technical services for the agency’s Global Hawk Skyrange program.
The contract was awarded to Northrop Grumman’s System Corp. (NGSC) business based in San Diego. Work will be performed at the agency’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California, through Dec. 14, 2025.
The goal of the Skyrange program is to equip high-altitude, long-endurance aircraft with sensors for data collection in long-range flight test activities. Northrop Grumman will integrate sensors on the aircraft and perform demonstration flights against flight assets.
The Skyrange program will obtain engineering, technical and fight operations, and provide maintenance support from NGSC for the program at Armstrong. Skyrange goals are to equip high-altitude, long-endurance aircraft with sensors to demonstrate an alternative data collection support system for remote long-range flight test activities.
Northrop Grumman employs more than 90,000 people and reported $33.8 billion in 2019 revenue.
