Herndon-based data center development company EdgeConneX announced Thursday the closing of its acquisition by Stockholm-based EQT Infrastructure from an investor group led by Providence Equity Partners.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The companies received regulatory approval for the definitive agreement that was first announced Aug. 19. The acquisition by EQT Infrastructure will allow EdgeConneX to grow more quickly and create new products, according to the company.

EdgeConneX data centers are designed to provide power and cooling and are positioned near network aggregation points, where users can consume content or cloud services. EQT Infrastructure, an infrastructure investment company, will bring cloud adoption and data consumption capabilities, according to a company statement.

“The closing of this transaction marks a major milestone in EdgeConneX’s decadelong history, and I look forward to leading the company into its exciting next chapter,” EdgeConneX CEO Randy Brouckman said in a statement. “EQT’s financial strength, digital infrastructure expertise and strategic focus will help propel the company forward, as we are well-positioned to address our customers’ future data center requirements and global expansions needs.”

Founded in 2009, EdgeConneX provides services including data center design, connectivity, power, automation and security. It operates more than 40 facilities in 33 markets across North America, Europe and South America
