Auto manufacturing giant to build new North American HQ in Reston Town Center

Automobile manufacturing giant Volkswagen Group of America Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG) announced Tuesday it has chosen to keep its headquarters in Fairfax County — signing a 20-year lease agreement in Reston Town Center.
Volkswagen’s North American headquarters has been located in Fairfax County since 2007. It will be the anchor tenant in Boston Properties’ under-construction 1.1 million square-foot development in the next phase of Reston Town Center. It will occupy 196,000 square feet of space at the new development, with the move expected for the end of 2023.
“Volkswagen Group of America is truly the kind of employer that any community would love to have – great jobs, great corporate citizen – and indeed it could choose any headquarters location it wants, so we are honored that the firm has chosen Fairfax County and Northern Virginia – again – and will be an important part of our economic base for decades to come,” Fairfax County Economic Development Authority President and CEO Victor Hoskins said in a statement.
The new development will include in-building parking and 300 electric vehicle chargers, a conference center and access to the Metro Silver Line.
“A company focused on the future of mobility needs a future-proof workspace to match those ambitions,” Scott Keogh, Volkswagen Group of America President and CEO said in a statement. “This space is designed from the start to be efficient, collaborative and bring our team under one roof so we can keep and attract top talent.”
Volkswagen Group of America includes the U.S. operations of brands including Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Volkswagen. The company also has a manufacturing plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
“This is great news that Volkswagen Group of America will maintain its headquarters here for many years to come,” Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeffrey C. McKay said in a statement. “It is a vote of confidence in so many ways – in the business climate we have worked hard to create and maintain, in the assets that attract international companies and in the quality of life that attracts people and keeps them here.”
