Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) has signed a long-term lease for 84,000 square feet of space at Braddock Metro Center in a move that will consolidate three locations into a new central office and school board headquarters next year.
The property at 1340 Braddock Place in Alexandria is owned by Washington Real Estate Investment Trust (WRIT). It stands on the site of Parker-Gray High School, which served Alexandria’s largest historically black neighborhood from 1950 to 1979.
The transaction is the result of a multi-year effort to meet the long-term central office needs of the ACPS. The system conducted an extensive search, and chose Braddock Metro Center because of its location adjacent to the Braddock Road Metro, favorable economics, and the financially sound ownership of WRIT.
ACPS plans to occupy the new space in June 2014. CBRE’s Joe O’Brien, Mike McShea and Ardell Fleeson represented ACPS.
