Richmond Montessori School (RMS) has received a $100,000 donation, the largest individual gift in the school’s history.
Ben Humphreys Sr., a longstanding friend of the school, gave the gift in honor of his late wife, Lynn Humphreys.
Humphreys’ two grandsons attend the school.
School officials said the gift will be divided to support three initiatives:
The first amount will be contributed to fundraising for The Mary Morton Parsons Foundation match challenge grant supporting a $750,000 campaign to build an upper elementary and science building.
The second will establish the school’s first Capital Facility Endowment that will ensure the upkeep of facilities.
The final portion will secure the naming of the school’s Performing Arts Center: The Lynn C. Humphreys Performing Arts Center.
Humphreys’ son and daughter-in-law, Ben Humphreys Jr. and Amy, contributed $50,000 toward the naming of the building in Lynn’s honor.
